On Wednesday, November 14, 2018 stars of the bread-baking world gathered together in Manhattan at the Landmark on the Park for the results of the inaugural Tiptree World Bread Awards.

Produced with Food is GREAT and supported by the American Bakers Association, the awards ceremony was hosted by Chair of the Judges, Stephen Hallam, of Dickinson & Morris in England. Hallam was delighted to declare Sarah Owens of Ritual Fine Foods in Queens the Winner of the Wholewheat/Wholemeal category, as well as overall winner, awarding her $1,000, a Tiptree hamper, and trophy.

“The field was incredibly competitive,” says Hallam, whose 30+ fellow judges included legendary bakers Zachary Golper of Bien Cuit, Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery, Amy Scherber of Amy’s Bread, and Zabars owners, David and Tracey Zabar.

Owens bested loaves sent in from around the United States, those delivered by courier or in person on the morning of the judging at Dumbo Loft in Brooklyn to ensure maximum freshness.

Guests celebrated the occasion with an array of British food and drink; from Toast Ale and Ridgeview, the award-winning English sparkling wine, to Tiptree gin cocktails mixed with Fever-Tree, and a feast of cheeses including Quickes’ Cheddar, Cote Hill, and Caws Cenarth

Tiptree World Bread Awards with Food is GREAT seek to celebrate the very best of American bread baking. “We are thrilled to have had such a successful launch year,” says Caroline Kenyon, Director of the Awards. “The choice, range and quality of bread in America today is immense.”
