Flushing’s World Fair

Organized by Asian Americans for Equality, the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, and NYC Small Business Services, this three-day expo includes a panel discussion, workshops, walking tours, food tours, networking, and a showcase of local businesses and cultural venues.

Experts in tourism, international cuisine, and social media are expected, and participants will receive a “Passport to Flushing” with special discounts to local restaurants, cultural venues, and retailers.

The first event is a forum, “Exploring The World of Tomorrow: The Future of Tourism in Flushing, Queens,” at Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel on June 15 at 10 am. Former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who is currently vice president of borough promotion and engagement at NYC & Co., will provide a keynote address. Then, Queens Tourism Council Director Rob MacKay will moderate a panel discussion with Matt Levy, co-owner of The Levys’ Unique New York; Shweta Parmar, a local health-and-wellness specialist, Josh Schneps, who is co-publisher of the Queens Courier; social media marketing guru Konstanine Koll; Dumpling Galaxy owner Helen You; and Deborah Robinson, an adviser-lecturer in the Business and Technology Department at LaGuardia Community College.

Friday afternoon will feature workshops on tourism and social media for small businesses and entrepreneurs seeking to tap into the Flushing market, the fourth largest commercial district in New York City. Plus, there will be a showcase of local businesses and cultural venues as well as government agencies that help small business owners.

The weekend features an exploration of historic sites led by Jack Eichenbaum, who is the borough’s official historian, and a food tour led by Joe DiStefano, who runs the food blog Chopsticks + Marrow.
